Profile: I grew up in rural Colorado, USA. When I was 18 I moved to Stockton, California to earn my batchelor’s degree in French literature and Mandarin. At 22 I moved to Shangai, China to continue my Mandarin studies and work on a master’s degree of sociology. During my time in Shangai I became fascinated with the local language, Shanghainese. For my MA dissertation I researched local language attitudes towards Shanghainese, as the language is being used less frequently by the younger generation. In 2017 I decided to continue my studies and learn an additional master’s degree in Language Documentation and Description from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. I have been working at Wangka Maya since April, 2019.
